Olympafrica

Olympafrica
With the support of the immediate past IOC President, Juan Antonio Samaranch, the Olympafrica programme was developed to avail the youth of developing countries with the spinoffs and benefits from Olympism.
As a social Development Programme through Sport, Olympafrica proposes a wide range of sports and socioeducative activities. More than 250 activities can now be carried out in Olympafrica Centres on a regular basis.

Socio-Educational objectives

The 4 purposes of the Olympafrica programme are:

  • Build in African countries simple and low-cost sports and educational facilities that are functional and decent enough to trigger the return and maintenance of the rural youth on their land ;
  • Capitalise on the popularity of sport to motivate sport practitioners and introduce them into activities of sustainable development ;
  • Contribute in meeting the aspirations of the African Youth by offering it opportunities to become involved in unconventional self-managed programmes ;
  • Groom young talents through cultural programmes organised in Olympafrica centres.

The Olympafrica Network

On 30 April and 1st of May 2007, the Olympafrica Network was formally constituted in Dakar (Senegal), bringing together the Olympafrca Foundation and Centres, the IOC Department for International Cooperation and Development, the Olympic Solidarity, ANOCA, CONFEJES as well as various partners, including the IAAF and Daimler.

The Foundation’s collective activities include the following:

  • The Practice of football with the Daimler Chrysler Cup
  • The Practice of athletics with the Olympafrica Youth Running Challenge
  • Bringing children together with the Iba Mbaye Scholarship
  • Micro-gardening
  • The teaching of Olympic values at primary school level through Olymp- Educ
  • Workshops for the production of clothing
  • Workshops for the production of sport materials
  • Information and sensitization campaign on HIV/AIDS through Olympafrica Raid Sida

Besides these activities, Olympafrica Foundation signed a Partnership Agreement with CONFEJES early May 2007 in order to develop leadership activities especially in the area of training in Olympafrica Centres.


CAA
